What goal should I set for myself?

How to Choose a Goal That Actually Feels Good
You’re ready to make a change, build a habit, or move forward with something that matters to you—but then the question hits: What goal should I even set?
Do I need to be more productive? Get healthier? Finally start that creative project? All of the above??
The good news is, there’s no one “right” goal to choose. But there is a way to figure out what makes the most sense for you, right now.
Let’s walk through it together.
1. Start with how you want to feel
Before you jump into specifics, ask yourself: How do I want to feel in the next few weeks or months?
Energized? Focused? At ease? Confident? Creative?
Let that feeling guide you.
🧠 Want to feel more focused?
You might set a goal around creating a morning rhythm or reducing screen time.
🎨 Want to feel creatively lit up?
Maybe it’s time to carve out weekly space for a project you’ve been putting off.
🌿 Craving calm or balance?
A wellness-focused goal—like better sleep or daily movement—might be your best first step.
When your goal aligns with how you want to feel, it becomes something you want to return to, not just something you “should” do.
2. Choose one small thing to experiment with
Not sure where to start? That’s okay. You don’t have to overhaul your life. Try choosing one thing you’re curious about and turn it into a mini experiment.
Instead of:
“I’m going to meditate every day for the rest of my life.”
Try:
“I’ll try a 5-minute meditation three times this week and notice how I feel after.”
That’s a real goal—and a sustainable one.
3. Make it measurable, not rigid
A goal doesn’t have to be extreme or intense to matter. Measurable just means you’ll know if it happened or not. That clarity can be motivating and freeing.
Examples:
“Go to bed before 11 p.m. 4 nights this week.”
“Write for 20 minutes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.”
“Move my body in some way 3x this week—walk, yoga, dance, whatever feels good.”
4. Ask: What would success look like for me?
Forget what Instagram says. Success isn’t a perfectly color-coded planner or a 5 a.m. workout. It might look like:
Doing less so you can focus more
Following through on something just for you
Feeling proud of yourself for trying something new
