Feeling Overwhelmed? Here's How to Begin

We’ve all been there.

That moment when you realize something in your life needs to shift—your health, your daily habits, your creative work—and instead of feeling inspired, you feel... frozen. Maybe it started as a whisper (“I want to feel better in my body” or “I really want to write that book”), but somewhere along the way, the whisper turned into a tidal wave of where do I even begin?

First, let’s normalize the overwhelm.

They do it step by step, with breaks, wrong turns, and course corrections along the way. Feeling unsure or scattered at the start is not a sign of failure—it’s a sign that you care. You’re stepping outside your comfort zone. That’s courageous.

So where do you begin?

Here are a few grounding principles that can help you find your footing:

1. Start small and stay curious.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. What’s one small action you could take today that aligns with where you want to go? Drink a glass of water before your coffee. Open your laptop and write one paragraph. Go for a 10-minute walk. Small steps build momentum, and curiosity keeps things lighter than pressure.

2. Focus on rhythm, not rules.

Rigid plans often crumble under the weight of real life. Instead, think in terms of rhythms. Maybe you take 15 minutes each morning to center yourself, or you carve out one evening a week for your creative work. When you focus on sustainable rhythms instead of all-or-nothing rules, you leave room for life to happen and for progress to unfold.

3. Honor your capacity.

Some days you’ll feel like you can move mountains. Other days, brushing your teeth and texting a friend is a win. Both count. Part of any lasting change—whether it’s wellness or creative—is learning to move with your energy, not against it. This is how we create practices that last.
